Mari Pantsar

Director, Resource-wise and carbon-neutral society 

Mari Pantsar leads the theme ”Resource-wise and carbon-neutral society” at Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, helping Finland develop into a forerunner in a competitive circular economy. In 2016, Mari has, among others, led the preparation work of creating Finland’s road map towards a circular economy as the first country in the world. The circular economy road map has been raised as one of the top priorities of the Finnish government’s projects targeted at improving competitiveness.


Before joining Sitra in 2011, Mari was Strategic Director of the Finnish government’s strategic cleantech programme, and in 2007–2011 led the Finnish Cleantech Cluster. From 2000 to 2007, she held the post of Manager of Environmental Affairs at UPM and was also Chair of CEPI REACH Issue group. In addition, she has served on the boards of several cleantech companies and funds.


Mari has a PhD and holds the status of Adjunct Professor at Lappeenranta University of Technology and University of Helsinki. Mari views ecological sustainability as the very basis of future competitiveness, rather than an optional path.
