The European paper industry is one of the most sustainable in Europe today: working with and for the environment, delivering essential everyday products to society and making an important contribution to Europe’s economic wealth, including providing vital jobs in rural areas.

Its strategy is to use natural resources in an efficient way, reducing negative environmental and social impacts and meeting society’s need for sustainable consumption.

The industry’s efforts and successes to date include:

• An active commitment to sustainable forest management, helping to nurture Europe’s increasing forest area;
• A drive to increase recycling that has made paper the most recycled product in Europe; And
• A commitment to Renewable Energy that has made the industry the biggest user and producer of Renewable Energy in Europe.
