Environment
For more than a decade, the European paper industry has invested, on average, €560 million a year in environmental improvements. The result has been what policy makers call the ‘decoupling’ of environmental impacts from production growth. What does that mean in practice? Simply that while more paper is being produced than in 1990, the actual impact on the environment has decreased. The paper industry is committed to ensuring that this improvement is ongoing. A sustainable approach to resources, promoting sustainable forest management, implementing environmental management systems and ecodesign, ensuring products are safe, fit for use and recyclable are all part of that commitment.
